Everything You Should Know When It Comes To Juicing

By juicing fruits and vegetables, you can quickly absorb their nutrients into your system. The following article will introduce you to some helpful tips and tricks to begin incorporating juicing into your routine and reaping its many healthy and convenient benefits.

When juicing, go with fruits and veggies you wouldn’t normally consider and use other ingredients to mask their taste. This will help you to get all the nutrients you need, especially ones you might miss otherwise. Two great ingredients to use to mask flavors you don’t like are lemon juice and apples.

In your juicing include negative calorie foods. This will help you get a low calorie, nutritious juice. Such low-calorie items include herbs, cabbages, and deep green veggies like kale and broccoli. For fruit juices, high fiber fruits offer the greatest perks, as fiber is hard to digest.

Cucumbers are excellent for juicing because they have beneficial elements for your hair and skin. Cucumbers have substantial amounts of silica. Silica not only helps with your skin but it is also great for bones, tendons, ligaments and muscle strength.

If getting older is taking its toll on your energy and stamina, consider the nutritional boost of adding home made juice to your diet. Fresh juicing your drinks, packs so many nutrients in one glass, which improve memory, reverse the damage of free radicals and ease your joint pain, among other things.

In terms of juicing, remember that different juices may change the appearance of the teeth. This is vital as some juices can stain your teeth. Carrot and beet juices do this a lot. So if you do happen to drink these kind of juices, then you want to brush after you drink them to avoid staining them.

Try keeping your juicer on the kitchen counter within easy reach. This will help you to form a consistent juicing regime. This puts an easy memo within sight to remind you to get your daily juice.

When trying to decide on a juicer, find a model that is easily dismantled for quick clean-up. If your juicer is time consuming to assemble and clean, you are less likely to use it on a regular basis. Make sure you clean your juicer soon after using it for easier cleaning while it is still wet.

Juices made from leafy greens are loaded with good nutrients, but unfortunately they often have an unpalatable taste. They can be made delicious. Dark green vegetable juices can be mixed with other ingredients to improve their taste while still getting their nutritious goodness. For instance, lime will cause the juice to be more sour tasting, and apples will add a sweeter taste to it.

After you juice, you should drink it immediately. It is crucial to remember that the nutritional value of juice begins decreasing as soon as the juice has been made. If you allow the juice to sit for a few days, you will not get as many of the beneficial vitamins and minerals. For this reason, you should drink the fresh juice while it is actually still considered fresh.

Shop for a well-made juicer that will perform at low speeds. High speed in a juicer may lower the nutritional value of foods, due to heat and over-processing. It may decrease the mineral and vitamin benefits for which you are using the juicer.

It is easier to do than you may have thought, and juicing enhances your diet with beneficial nutrients, vitamins, and enzymes. The above advice will empower you to juice like a professional chef with little effort at all, saving you a bundle on fancy smoothie runs.

  2. Hi donnie, how long the juice is still ok to consume if i keep it in the refrigerator. Since i kinda busy so i make quite a lot

  3. Hi! I’m starting the 3 day juicing plan and I’m currently in school. I do not have the option of refrigerating my juice all day. What should I do?

  4. does juice fast help in irritable bowel syndrome

  5. Hey. I’m starting to juice however coffee in the morning is a big thing for me. What are your thoughts?

  6. I’m really interested in trying out juicing, but I have a few concerns. I’m a college student. Worse, I’m a double major in English and Theatre, because that sounded like a good idea at the time. My schedule is as follows: class in the mornings, hour break for lunch, work in the afternoons [in the theater], off at 5, rehearsal at 6 until around 10. Weekends are usually free unless it’s a show weekend in which case I’m back in the theater from 6-10. I live a few min away off-campus, can’t really spend that much gas going back and forth between breaks for a simple juicing session, and here this article suggests I drink freshly made juice immediately. How detrimental would it be if I juiced all my meals that morning, or more conveniently the night before. Just the day’s juices. I understand immediacy is ideal, but how tragic would it be to juice the day’s intake at once? Thanks.

  7. Hey Everyone!

Today I will be starting my first juice fast! I am really excited!

My main reasons for wanting to do this fast is for health and increased energy. I started working the permanent night shift over a year ago and I have not been able to figure out how to eat well on nights. I am also a vegetarian. I feel that with working nights, the usual “eat healthy” rules don’t apply anymore (ie: don’t eat late at night). I really think juicing will be able to help me eat properly, be healthy, and give me energy.

    Wish me luck!

    Danielle

    • Danielle, I’m sorry for the late response but I hope you are doing great! Juicing will help you eat well on your night shifts. Just have a juice when you are hungry and let it do it’s magic! Keep me posted and know that I’m here if you have any questions.

  8. Hi Just watched Fat, sick and nearly dead. Have been doing slimming world diet for 4-5mths and only lost a stone, and my skin is so bad and my nails were horrendous, but started drinking aloe vera and have had improvement in my nails, I did the aloe detox which improved my skin for 1 month but now its horrendous again so really want to give this a try. I don’t have a blender though so which make is the best that I can buy in the UK please and not overly pricey? thanks in advance x

  9. I’m a mail carrier and I really want to try this but I need to know how I can keep the juice cold? I’m usually on my route 5 to 6 hours. How much exercise should I do also? Thanks in advance

    • Amanda, you can keep your juice in a lunch pack with ice. That should keep them chilled and prolong their life. You don’t have to do any exercise if you don’t want to. I waited until I got down to the weight that I wanted before I started including exercise into my routine. Let me know if you have any questions.

    • Hi Donnie I need a recipe that can include pineapples and watermelon..can u help me? I started my juice diet yesterday and I lost 3 lbs..I’m happy with results so far

      • Amanda, take a recipe you enjoy and try substituting some of the fruits in there with pineapple and watermelon. Experiment and you’ll find out how fun it can be! Congrats on the weight lost! Keep me posted!

  10. With drinking 4 to 6 juices per day, how many ounces should each glass of juice be? I’m starting my fast this week. Thanks for the info, praying this works…..

    • Sonya, juices should be between 16-20 ounces. Make sure you read all throughout the site to get as much information as possible before you start. A great place to start is with the FAQ! http://www.justonjuice.com/juicing-faq/#6 read it up and down as it will answer most all of your questions.

Keep me posted and let me know if you have any questions. I wish you all the best Sonya!

  11. I don’t care for the taste of cucumbers, do the recipes with cucumbers actually taste like cucumber?

  12. I am on my seventh day juicing. I love every thing about juicing. being single is the perfect answer for a one on one meal. love creating my own recipes. I feel a sort of over all happiness surrounding me. when I get stronger while juicing I am going to attempt getting off all my medicine, this I am a bit nervous. I take a large array of oxicontin meds for chronic pain from back surgery and knee replacements. I take antiflammatory to high deses of depression pills. I believe juicing is the natural way the body can heal its self. I will keep you posted. thanks. by the way you look younger now.

    • Venessa, welcome to JOJ and congrats on your juice fasting success! Keep juicing and soon you’ll be able to say goodbye to those meds! It’s amazing what healthy choices can do for us now and in the future. Keep me posted on your success and remember, I’m always here if you have questions.

  13. hey,
I am on day 4 of the juice diet and finding it quite hard to drink a glass of juice, if I blended the vegetables and heated them would that still be nutritional enough?

    lost 5lbs already,

    thank you
    siobhann

    • Siobhann, I hope you are not using a blender. Make sure you are using a juicer. Heating the juice is fine and it’s a good way to trick your mind into thinking you are having a warm meal. Let me know if you have any questions.

  14. Hi Donnie,

I just wanted to say thank you for all the helpful juicing information you have provided. My daughter and I are about to embark on the 7 Day Juice Fast using the recipes provided. We bought the Breville Juice Fountain and have been experimenting with juicing for a couple of weeks now and think it’s great. I’m already getting compliments about my skin and weight loss after just a few juices incorporated into a regular healthy diet. We can’t wait to see the results from the fast.

Also, for anyone wanting to juice for health and weighloss benefits, we loved the documentary about juicing called
“Fat, sick and Nearly Dead” (www.fatsickandnearlydead.com/)and found it very inspirational. It’s a great motivational piece to watch.

    Thanks again for your help,

    Renaie~

    • Renaie, I wish you and your daughter the best of luck on your juice fasts! Keep me posted and let me know if you have any questions.

  15. Hello Donnie,

Is the Nutri-Bullet a good juicer to use for juicing? Thank you!

  16. My husband and I have been juicing since June and absolutely love it. We’ve never done it as a fast, just for the health of it. We follow the Weight Watcher program daily but have stopped losing weight since we became juicers. Could vegetables and small bits of fruit cause us to maintain? Non-starchy vegetables are 0 pnts…..so we always figured our juice as 0 pnts. We’ll keep juicing no matter what, but have thought maybe it should be as a meal replacement instead of a yummy green anytime cocktail! Any input will be appreciated. Thanks.

    • Bonnie, you’re attempting to mix two different ways of eating and dieting. I’m thinking you may have plateaued with weight watchers. You might want to consider juicing along with a few added meals of fresh fruits and veggies or even all out juice fasting if you want to really see that weight start to drop. What does your typical day look like as far as what meals you are including in your diet?

  17. Can I juice ahead of time? For instance, making my lunch juice at the same time I do my breakfast, to be stored in the fridge at work. Bringing a juicer to work isn’t really an option for me and my allotted lunch time isn’t enough to drive all the way home to do it.
    Thanks in advance!
    SaraJo

    • Sara, you sure can make your juice ahead of time. Drink your breakfast juice and then make enough to take to work with you. Just keep them in airtight containers and store them in the refrigerator at work. They should keep fine until you’re ready to drink them. I’m here if you have any questions Sara.

      • Hi… Im reading from Istanbul / Turkey:)… İs it ok to prepare 4-5 juices to get me through the day, and keep tnem in the fridge at work ?

        • Tuna, it’s okay to prepare your juices in the morning and take them with you. Just store them in the refrigerator and you’ll be fine.

  18. I am a vegetarian and thought I would cope really well with a juice diet. I eat loads of salad and fruit so introduced the odd juice drink to my diet before attempting a full out juice fast. I only lasted a day and a half and felt quite ill, really dizzy and very upset stomach. I hadn’t wanted to cleanse but had wanted to lose weight. I am disappointed that I couldn’t do it but will still add juice drinks to my diet to reap their benefits. Brilliant site I have posted the link on my Facebook page.

    • Sorry to hear that Barbara. You should try juicing with an added meal every day. It may still help you.

  19. Hi,, i would like to go on the 3 day juice fast and don’t have a juicer… so if i use the blender do i have to strain the juice or can i just drink it as is?

    • Joyce, I’m sorry, you can’t use a blender for juicing. Blenders are great and have many uses but juicing is not one of them. Even if you strain the juice it won’t work properly due to how a juice is broken down with a juicer and how it’s broken down with a blender. All juice is not created equal. You can enjoy some really great smoothies until you can get a hold of a juicer. Having smoothies is a great way to get prepared for a juice fast. Let me know if you have any questions.

  20. I have to prepare my juice for work lunch. Does the juice keep its nutritional value if I have to juice it in the morning. If not what do you suggest. Thank you

    • Kerry, it’s perfectly fine to prepare your juices in the morning and take them to work with you. They will hold value as long as you store them in an airtight container and make sure they are kept in a fridge. Make 2-3 to take with you and you’ll be good to go!

      • I have to prepare my juice for work lunch. Does the juice keep its nutritional value if I have to juice it in the morning. If not what do you suggest. Thank you

        Thanks heaps Donnie

        • Kerry, the juice will keep fine if you make it in the morning and take it with you to work. Make sure it’s in an airtight container and stored in a fridge until you’re ready to drink it. I would make sure and drink your juices within 6-8 hours after you make them.

  21. I had to chuckle at your statement above, “Two great ingredients to use to mask flavors you don’t like are lemon juice and apples.” Apples are ok, but have never been my favorite (although I do enjoy an organic braeburn from time to time) and I almost despise anything lemon. Do you actually TASTE the lemon in your juice or is it more like a mystery hint of something in the background? Also, when your recipes call for apples, be they granny smith or gala, would a breaburn suffice? Thanks a million for this site. I hope I’m not driving you too crazy with all my questions. I just want to make sure I get this right. :)

    • Trixie, I usually always use the Granny Smith apples because they have the least amount of sugar compared to other apples. Lemon is used for a few reasons. First it’s one I the best things you can use to cleanse your system along with it being one of the best digestive aids. Secondly, it’s great to cover up harsh flavors like kale or spinach.

If you absolutely don’t want to use lemon, strawberries or raspberries work really well to add some tang and also mask harsher flavors.

Feel free to ask as much as you want Trixie!

    • I love incorporating ginger into my juice – it gives it kind of a spicy tang and is AMAZING at covering up some of the least preferred flavors. :)
